DuPont™ Tyvek® 500 and Tyvek® 400 D meet the protection and comfort requirements of the wind power sector

DuPont™ Tyvek® 500 Xpert & Tyvek® 400 Dual meet the protections requirements of the wind power sector

Gamesa, a global technological leader within the wind power industry, currently uses two models of single-use Tyvek® coveralls for the protection of its 600 workers at four plants in Spain. Already convinced by the Tyvek® difference, 2012 saw the company take a further step towards greater comfort with the adoption of Tyvek® 400 D, the two-fabric garment that combines high protection with excellent wearer comfort and good overall breathability.

The protective requirement of different tasks within the turbine blades manufacturing plants are comprehensively covered by two Tyvek® garments thanks to the high protection standard of the Tyvek® 500 and Tyvek® 400 D. Whilst Tyvek® 500 offers full body protection, the Tyvek® 400 D garment combines at the front with good breathability thanks to its SMS back. This coverall is used during the manufacturing process, from lamination of turbine blade’s beam and shells, to the gluing of the shells and final finishing of the blade.

“We started using Tyvek® 400 D two years ago, in those work areas where front protection was the only requirement. Tyvek® 500, however, remains our reference garment for PPE due to comprehensive protection it provides,” says Iñigo Ardanaz, head of Prevention and Environmental Protection for Europe region ROW for GAMESA, that encompasses all the industrial plants. “The final decision as to which garment is used was made by the workers, following a field trial at their workplace with several coverall models,” he added.

Personal protection is required at the workplace due to the use of adhesive materials and resins, as well as protection of the process from the environmental dust and dirt created during production and sanding down procedures.  Tyvek® 400 D offers the protection, durability and comfort characteristics of Tyvek® fabric on the front side complete with a wide breathable back made of SMS from head to ankle for optimised comfort. Other features for comfort and safety are its ergonomic three piece hood, the tight seal at critical points and external stitched seams for enhanced protection against penetration from the outside to the inside of the garment.

At other Gamesa sites, Tyvek® 500 offers robust and lightweight protection against airborne particles in applications such as general maintenance and operations, automatic spray painting and many others.

GAMESA has trusted in DuPont™ Tyvek® solutions for more than 10 years.
