BETAFORCE™ multi-material bonding

For high-performance bonding of vehicle structures and EV battery packs, BETAFORCE™ multi-material bonding adhesive enables significant weight reduction, acoustic performance, ease of assembly and corrosion protection. Design flexibility is maintained while processing performance and sustainability goals are achieved.

A novel solution and R&D 100 Award winner, BETAFORCETM elastic structural adhesives enable sustainable assembly of battery packs in electric vehicles (EVs). This is made possible through a unique formulation that cures at room temperature, resulting in energy savings by avoiding high temperature oven curing. In addition, this solution contains 30% weight renewable and bio-based raw materials and does not require any primers or pretreatments to the substrate being bonded, thus eliminating other chemicals from the manufacturing environment.

BETAFORCE™ is an ideal choice for joining carbon fiber and glass fiber composites and other dissimilar materials in a variety of lightweight designs, including modular assemblies. It can be used to bond coated metals like steel to aluminum, carbon fiber panels to steel or aluminum, and sheet molding compound (SMC) to aluminum.

Recent formulations of BETAFORCE™ offer a cycle time of around one minute and are currently being used for mass series production. Open times can be adjusted to accommodate specific mounting requirements in the plant, such as a quicker curing time by infrared treatment, and the initial adhesion requires no additional fixing tools.
