Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings Made Better with Kevlar®
Strong and heat-resistant DuPont™ Kevlar® fiber helps improve viscosity control and drives value for the production of adhesives, sealants, and coatings.
In adhesive, sealant, coating, and fiber-reinforced plastic applications, DuPont™ Kevlar® helps provide better viscosity control and lower costs. A fibrous thixotrope, Kevlar® thickens or builds viscosity through the random orientation and physical entanglement of fibers and tiny fibrils. This built-in thixotropic mechanism helps provide superior viscosity control that is unaffected by processing or aging.
Because Kevlar® fiber is such a strong performer, significantly less is needed to achieve thixotropic properties equivalent to those obtainable with other materials, such as fumed silica, thereby reducing cost. In addition, Kevlar® is ideal for a full range of temperatures, from cryogenic to 350°C (662°F), and is inert in most common chemicals, including organic solvents.
Kevlar® brand
Best known for its use in ballistic and stab-resistant body armor, Kevlar® brand aramid fiber is credited with helping to save thousands of lives. Lightweight and extraordinarily strong, it’s used to make a variety of clothing, accessories, and equipment safer, more cut resistant and durable.
